No soon as it had arrived I was using Chapter 1: Legislation and policy. A comprehensive and meaningful journey from the late 1800s to 2010 which served to contextualise learning and teaching. An excellent, totally relevant book, each chapter providing a summary, key issues, points for reflection and suggestions for further reading.

this book allows the students to see into the world of Special Needs for Early Years educators, children and parents alike through very accessible guidance which can be use at any level.
An excellent book for tutors of this subject matter. It covers all the core curriculum for practitioners. Good references are given to promote further reading. The book is set out in an easy to read format with objectives at the beginning of each chapter. I was impressed with the case studies and the analysis that followed. I believe this book because of it's high academic content will be more suitable for level 3 courses and foundation degree level. It would be suitable for tutors to extract relevant information to teach to level 2 courses. The key issues noted at the end of each chapter could be used for lower level teaching points. A good teaching resource to have at hand.

Anyone covering special needs will find this book an excellent resource. I wish I had it earlier but this will really help my students. Well presented and full of relevant and up to date information.
This was an excellent book that provided the right balance between theory and practice.
It explored the real issue of affective development and how this can impact on the development of the child, whilst at the same time acknowledging the importance of partnership with parents.
It also provides a fairly comprehensive section on purpose and significance of observation and assessment.
This text served as a useful introduction to key issues surrounding special needs in the early years for Year 1 students on the Early Childhood programme.
An excellent reference book providing clear information on observation methods and linking to the EYFS.
