This book will be a valuable addition to our inclusion resources for the BA QTS course as well as the PGCE. There are insufficent resources that capture SEND issues in the early years from birth to 5+.
Kate writes in a very readable style and with recommendations for further reading/research, plus the points for reflection make this book both accessible and versatile.
Chapter 4 really identifies a child with SEND as a real person first and foremost - something often forgotten by writers who do not come from an early years background.
Despite being published in 2011 there are some things that seem not to have been updated where others have. Edition 4, I guess!

An excellent book that covers the SEN module. It presents interesting case studies that can be easily used for seminars and activities.
Kate Wall's 3rd edition of 'Special Needs & Early Years A Practitioner's Guide', is a most informative, detailed and student friendly resource. This book is inclusive of an interesting book to read and also an excellent resource for a lecturer to use, when teaching our 'future child care practitioners' about children and special needs in the early years.

The text covers a range of aspects of the subject, particularly partnership working. it also addresses good Early years practice generally: I would have welcomed more coverage of intervention and more on the specific issues related to children with special needs in the early years.
