This was a great help to students coming to grips with their dissertation. It is an accessible text, and has a refreshingly practical approach.
This builds on the 1st edition which has been used as a very helpful introductory text for social work students undertaking their dissertation. I am not convinced the sketches add value to to the text!
This text has been well received by a diverse range of students and is well structured and easy for the student to follow. The author has set out to make the topic of interest to the student and to be relevant across a range of study areas. I would recommend this text.
Useful and accessible
A user friendly step by step approach on how to manage a dissertation
This book is an outstanding text for those who are nervous about their dissertation. The students are guided through the clear text in order to make the most of the dissertation process.
Informally written to engage with the new researcher and make it less daunting; well laid out with detailed contents section to support students in finding the information they need. Very helpful, helps with terminology – useful whether embarking on qualitative or quantitative research. Good reading lists and particularly like the focused signposting in some of these although I would have liked to see references to www resources.
I particularly found the style of Walliman's writing very accessible. His use of cartoons to illustrate his advice and his many practical tips will hopefully go some way to answering the myriad of questions that are a feature of any student's dissertation!
