Nina Bandelj University of California, Irvine, USA

Nina Bandelj received her Ph.D. in Sociology from Princeton University, where she received the Seymour Martin Lipset Dissertation Award from the Society for Comparative Research.  She is currently Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Irvine.  Dr. Bandelj’s research intersects two areas of inquiry:  economic sociology and social change, specifically related to transformations in Central and Eastern Europe and globalization.  Her research on economy and society is inspired by classical questions raised by Max Weber about social and economic action and Karl Polanyi about market creation and operation.  Related to this research agenda in economic sociology, Bandelj’s work also examines, more broadly, the two momentous changes in the late 20th century, the rise of globalization and the collapse of communism.  She has written several books, including Economic Sociology of Work, and is Editor of Socio-Economic Review. She is an Executive Member of the International Sociological Association section on Social Transformations and Sociology of Development and an Executive Committee Member of the Center for Organizational Research.
