As a sociologist I found it interesting, contmeporary and accessible.
In my role as Practice Educator I have used this book as a source to refresh my knowledge etc within this area as well as directing students to read specific chapters.
The book is clearly set out, chapters are well defined, the content is structured with excellent definitions and activities (used in group sessions to stimualte discussion). The 'Lived Experience' at the end of each chapter was a welcome addition to academic texts, helping students make the link with 'the real world'.

The book is useful to students on the FD Care Studies course as a supplementary book. The chapters on different topics are informative and thought provoking for students and the activities are useful for group/class discussion.It is of more use to those in the social care field but only marginally for those in health. Therefore it is to be nominated as supplemental reading rather than essential.
