Journal of Asian Economic Integration
The Asian integration process has taken a new shape. Countries in Asia are part of several regional and sub-regional integration initiatives. A specialized journal is needed to reflect upon the Asian integration process. This journal provides detailed coverage of a wide range of topics in economics relating to Asia, including investigation of current research, international comparisons and country studies. It is a forum for debate amongst theorists, practitioners and researchers and publishes high-quality theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented contributions. It facilitates the exchange of information among researchers on a worldwide basis and offers a unique opportunity for economists to keep abreast of research on economics pertaining to Asian integration.
The regional integration process has taken a prime position in the world. In Asia, we have found the proliferation of several regional and sub-regional integration initiatives. Asian has been witnessing the two mega-regional agreements, namely, Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), of which CPTPP has been signed and implemented, whereas the RCEP is being negotiated at present. Regional integration process does not cover not only economic issues but also non-economic issues. The Asian integration process is discussed more extensively nowadays. There will be more debate in the coming years as Asia implements RCEP. The current and envisaged scenario thus leads us to think for a specialized journal.
A refereed journal, Journal of Asian Economic Integration carries articles by scholars, economic commentators, policy-makers and officials, and from both the private and public sectors. The journal has research articles, research notes, book reviews and review essays. The thematic area of the journal is Asian integration. Typically, proposals for themed issues by scholars interested in serving as guest editors may be considered as and when needed. This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The Asian nations have progressively liberalized their economies in an effort to strengthen the regional as well as global integration and improve cooperation on a variety of levels. While Asian economies have taken steps to enhance openness, the region faces variation in economic integration between countries and sub-regions. Asian region continues to face many challenges of economic and social development.
The goal of the Journal of Asian Economic Integration is to become an intellectual voice on the current issues of international economics and economic policy, based on comprehensive and in-depth analyses, with a primary focus on Asia. As such, articles in the Journal will not be purely academic research. Instead, stress will be placed on identifying key issues at the time—spanning international trade, international finance, the environment, energy, the integration of regional economies and other issues—in order to furnish ideas and proposals to contribute positively to the policy debate in the region. Although the principal focus is economic policy issues, when necessary and relevant, international relations papers are also included.
A peer-reviewed journal, Journal of Asian Economic Integration carries articles by scholars, economic commentators, policy-makers and officials, and from both the private and public sectors. There are three types of publications: research articles, research notes, and book reviews. Special issues are also planned on specific themes from time to time.
The editors invite submissions that illuminate the distinctive features of economies in Asia with respect to their institutional characteristics, their development paths, their policy experiences, or their international engagements. The focus on a geographical region lends itself to empirical analysis, though theoretical pieces are also considered, if found suitable to publish. Work that places Asian economies in comparative perspective would be welcome. We look for papers that would pose interesting questions and analysis that would yield fresh insights.

Before submitting your manuscript to Journal of Asian Economic Integration, please ensure you have read the Aims & Scope.
There could be two to three sections in the journal:
- Research Articles
- Research Notes
- Book Reviews
Manuscripts should normally not exceed 6,000 words and should be submitted in duplicate with the cover page bearing only the title of the article, author/s’ names, designations, official addresses, phone/fax numbers, and email addresses. In case there are two or more authors, then the corresponding author’s name and address details should be clearly specified on the first page of the article. Author/s’ name should not appear on any other page.
The manuscript should be structured as follows:
- Contributors must provide their affiliations and complete postal and e-mail addresses with their papers. In case there are two or more authors, then corresponding author’s name and address details must be clearly specified on the first page itself.
- All articles must be accompanied by an abstract of 150–200 words and 4–6 keywords.
- The JEL classification code for the articles should be included before Keywords.
- Endnotes should be used instead of footnotes, and should be numbered serially using standard figures (e.g., 1, 2, 3). The notes should be linked to the note cues within the text. Notes should contain more than a citation of a work. Use notes to elaborate an issue that is already made in the main text.
- The spellings used should be British (UK), with ‘s’ variant, e.g., globalisation instead of globalization, labour instead of labor.
- Use single quotes throughout. Double quotes only used within single quotes. Spellings of words in quotations should not be changed. Quotations of 45 words or more should be separated from the text and indented with one space with a line space above and below. When directly quoting from a work, include the page number in the citation.
- The main body of the text may be divided into sections with appropriate headings and subheadings. Please note that the headings and subheadings should be typed on a separate line. Do not number or indent for headings and subheadings.
- Use of italics and diacriticals should be minimized but consistent. For non-English and uncommon words and phrases, use italics throughout the text. Meaning of non-English words should be given in parenthesis just after the word when it is used for the first time.
- Use capitals sparingly and double-check the logical application of any distinctions you wish to make between specific and general use.
- Abbreviations are spelled out at first occurrence. Very common ones (US, GDP, BBC) need not be spelled out.
- Spell out numbers from one to nine, 10 and above to remain in figures. However, for exact measurements use only figures (3 km; 9 per cent). Use thousands and millions, not lakhs and crores.
- Use ‘per cent’ instead of % in the text. In tables, graphs, etc., % can be used.
- Give specific dates in the form 22 November 1980. Decades should be referred to as ‘twentieth century’, ‘1980s’.
- Ibid should not be used.
- Number ranges should not be truncated.
- Tables and figures to be indicated by numbers separately (see Table 1), not by placement (see Table below). Present each table and figure on a separate sheet of paper, gathering them together at the end of the article.

Please supply any personal acknowledgements separately to the main text to facilitate anonymous peer review.
2.3.1 Writing assistance
Individuals who provided writing assistance, e.g. from a specialist communications company, do not qualify as authors and so should be included in the Acknowledgements section. Authors must disclose any writing assistance – including the individual’s name, company and level of input – and identify the entity that paid for this assistance. It is not necessary to disclose use of language polishing services.
