Šimunjak is Professor of Journalism and Digital Media at the University of Zagreb and the author of ‘Managing emotions in journalism: A guide to enhancing resilience’ (Palgrave, 2023) and ‘Tweeting Brexit: Social Media and the Aftermath of the EU Referendum’ (Routledge, 2022). She has published extensively on the topic of journalists’ emotional labor, developed and run workshops on enhancing emotional intelligence and resilience in media work, and consulted newsrooms on strategies to improve journalists’ well-being, offering insights and solutions to enhance workplace culture and mitigate the effects of online abuse. Šimunjak has a PhD in Political communication from the University of East Anglia. She teaches courses on journalism, political communication and digital media. Prior to joining academia, she has worked as a journalist, presenter, and editor in digital, broadcast and print.
