October 13, 2016

Competition encourages postgraduate students and early career researchers to apply

Marlborough, UK. Adam Matthew is delighted to continue its partnership with the British Association for American Studies (BAAS), supporting a second annual essay competition aimed at postgraduate students and early career researchers. BAAS members are invited to enter for their chance to win £500, one year’s access to an Adam Matthew digital primary source collection of their choice and publish their winning essay in US Studies Online: the Postgraduate and Early Career Researcher Network and Blog.

Adam Matthew and the BAAS launched the inaugural competition in late 2015 with the first prize awarded to Patrick J. Doyle (Royal Holloway University, London) for his essay “Replacement Rebels: Confederate Substitution and the Issue of Citizenship” at the 2016 Irish and British Association for American Studies Conference in Belfast.

To enter the 2016 Adam Matthew Digital Essay Competition, postgraduates and early career researchers should submit an essay between 3000 and 5000 words in length relating to a topic covered by any one of Adam Matthew’s North American collections. Applicants must be members of the BAAS to be eligible.

The deadline for applications is Friday 20th January 2017 and the winner will be announced at the 62nd BAAS Annual Conference held at Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent in April 2017.
