Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Foundations for Practice
- Frank Wills - University of Wales College, Newport, University of South Wales, UK
- Diana Sanders - Counselling Psychologist and BABCP Accredited Cognitive Psychotherapist in Independent Practice, Oxford
In their established introduction to contemporary CBT theory and practice, Diana Sanders and Frank Wills show how therapeutic change takes place across a network of cognitive, emotional and behavioral functioning. They explain the central concepts of CBT and illustrate - with numerous case examples - how these can effectively be put into practice at each stage of the therapeutic process. The revised book now includes:
- Recent developments in CBT, i.e., new settings and applications including guided self-help, computerized CBT, IAPT & stepped care
- Two brand new chapters on mindfulness and increasing access to CBT
- Extra case studies, chapter previews, exercises and further reading, plus an appendix of further resources
- Coverage of a wider range of client issues
This continues to be the ideal companion for those working - or training to work - in the psychological therapies and mental health.
'This volume should be the first stop for mental health practitioners from all disciplines looking for an introduction to the basic art and ideasof cognitive therapy' -
Adrian Wells, Professor of Clinical & Experimental Psychology, University of Manchester
'One of the very best introductions to CBT, now enhanced with excellent coverage of new developments' -
Professor Neil Frude, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
'This book has become my first choice recommendation for trainee therapists. Already an outstanding and easy-to-read introduction to the practical application of CBT, it just got better' -
Peter Simpson, Senior Lecturer in Mental Health, University of Glamorgan
this book provides student midwives with an introduction to the CBT. this is something that has increasing coverage and will be something that many patients will be experiencing. This book will enhance the student undersatnding and can only enhance the impact of care provision for the maternity services
This is a good book and I consider students will be greatly benefited by the use of it
We will add this to the essential reading for Year 1
This is proving to be an essential book for early learners and practitioners of CBT. It is most useful as a lecturing aid and after ordering it is now in our library with students referring to it regularly.
The addition of a section on CBT and IAPT is useful as many of our students work in an IAPT context. Also the emphasis on Third Wave CBT approaches is welcome as we do include these in yr 2 of our CBT course. Overall the book represents significant improvements to former titles by the same authors (e.g. CBT : An Intro). Material is very accessible and this is helped by use of good illustrative client examples. Would be good to see a section on critique/challenges to CBT and perhaps to include other Third Wave approaches such as Compassionate Mind Therapy
Frank Wills Essential reading
A very good book in an ever expanding sea of CBT text books
Book will be an additional and welcome advisory to the psychosocial interventions unit currently offered. It may also be considered as one that could be utilised in the pre-registration nursing (mental health) programme.
a useful book providing the basic information required to have a working knowledge of CBT
