Dr. Regensteiner is a Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. She is also the Director of the Center for Women's Health Research. Her research in diabetes is focused on gaining understanding of the cardiovascular effects of type 2 diabetes in women and men so that treatments can be sought. Research in peripheral arterial disease has the focus of understanding the pathophysiology of walking impairment in persons with claudication and how to treat this condition. She has been Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator of current and previous large grants in type 2 diabetes and peripheral arterial disease, She is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health (to study mechanisms of improvement in peripheral arterial disease resulting from exercise rehabilitation). She has also been and is currently extensively funded by the American Diabetes Association (to study gender differences in cardiovascular parameters in type 2 diabetes). Dr. Regensteiner is Principal Investigator and Program Director for the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health K-12 grant which funds junior faculty who wish to have careers in women's health.
