Dylan Yamada-Rice Royal College of Art, UK
Dylan Yamada-Rice is a Lecturer in Early Years Education at the University of Sheffield, UK. Her research interests are concerned with early childhood literacy, multimodal communication practices and visual and multimodal research methods. Dylan's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-funded PhD focused on young children's interaction with and comprehension of the visual mode. This was seen as one aspect of contemporary multimodality. Her previous research has explored children's access to digital technologies that foregrounded the visual mode, the way in which family members support engagement with digital technologies and differences in texts using the visual mode in the urban landscapes of Tokyo and London. In connection to these research interests, she draws on her academic background in Education, Japanese Art History and Fine Art. She is also Convenor of the Centre for the Study of Childhood and Youth Visual Research Interest Group.
