Ben Jann University of Bern, Switzerland
Ben Jann is Professor at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Bern in Switzerland. He studied Sociology at the University of Bern and the ETH Zürich, receiving a PhD from the latter in 2008 for his work on the Swiss labor market. He was appointed Professor of Sociology, with a specialization in social stratification, at the University of Bern in 2011. His research interests cover various fields of social science, such as discrimination, inequality and social stratification, as well as methodology and statistics.
Since 2014 he has been a Principal Investigator of TREE, a large-scale multi-cohort panel study in Switzerland on transitions from education to employment (www.tree.unibe.ch). Ben Jann is the author of numerous statistical software packages for Stata, some of which are widely used in the social science research community (such as “oaxaca”, “estout”, and “coefplot”).
