Applied Psychology for Social Work

'Excellent application of psychology to social work and will be recommending as a key text for the next academic year' (Lecturer, University of Wales, Newport)

I was a little disappointed with this text. Didn't find it very 'applied'. Where was the chapter on personality, obedience and conformity? Why people harm other people etc etc. All important to social work.

A very simple text that addresses some important content areas in applied psychology.

This book works at many levels and across all modules on the degree course. It is helpful in relating content to national standards, and interacting with the reader through activities and further tasks.

It was not particularyl relevant to module, but it was a useful read to inform my teaching.

Easy to navigate. I recommended this position to learners to support them with assignments. Good explanation supported with examples and small tasks. Will use it for my reading list next year.

A useful supportive text which I will recommend to individual students who show an interest in this area and particularly to support dissertations.

The introduction explaining the different theories is written in a way that is accessible, particularly for students who feel unsure about their knowledge and understanding.

I may recommend it to students on an individual basis not undergraduate and post graduate (AMHP training). It is clearly set out and takes the reader through engaing activitites to test out undersatnding. Liked the chapter on Attitudes and Beliefs. Not so impressed on the chapter relating to mental illness hence not recommending on reading list for AMHPs - too basic, but appreciate the target group is undergraduates.

I am no longer teaching the course I ordered this book for, but I think the book is wonderful and I intend to use it as a reference with my other social work courses.
