Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will apply and understand evidence-based clinical assessment procedures.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of effective intervention treatment, family systems theories, aspects of diversity, and dynamics of human interaction.
  • Students will be able to analyze, diagnose, and treat characteristics and symptoms of dependence, behavioral addictions, and substance abuse.
  • Students will be able to understand and apply legal and ethical guidelines as they pertain to therapy and counseling.

Course: Theories of Psychotherapy

This course will examine in detail the extension of these theories to personality maladjustment or abnormal behavior, specifically its treatment and correction.

  

Course: Group Work in Counseling

Presentation of models of group work processes, as well as of current theory applicable to group work in counseling. Students will be expected to develop a catalog of skills and ideas useful in the school setting, and to develop communication skills essential to group work

 

  

Course: Psychotherapy

The purpose of this course is to provide you with an overview of common treatments for psychological disorders or psychopathology. Throughout this course, you will learn about theories of psychopathology that correspond to specific psychotherapeutic orientations, specific psychotherapeutic strategies employed by different therapy models, and empirical approaches to evaluating treatment efficacy.
