SAGE transitions Trends in Amplification to the open access Trends in Hearing

February 24, 2014

Los Angeles, CA - SAGE today announces that Trends in Amplification has transitioned from a subscription-based journal to a fully open access journal with the new name Trends in Hearing (Trends).

As Trends in Hearing, the open access journal will also widen the scope of its content to publish research and clinical reports from speech pathologists, audiologists, and the broader medical community. Articles will cover a range of topics impacting the ear, brain, and act of hearing.

New Editor-in-Chief Andrew Oxenham stated, “I am pleased to be taking over Trends in Hearing at this exciting juncture in its development. With the new title, emphasizing its broader scope, and with new articles now freely available to all immediately on publication, I believe Trends is positioned to become a premier journal for high-quality original research and review articles related to hearing loss, hearing aids, and cochlear implants.”

Now more than 15 years old, Trends is the only journal completely dedicated to publishing original, evidence-based research and reviews focused on hearing aids, cochlear implants, and aural rehabilitation.

“Throughout its history, Trends in Amplification established itself as an important resource for researchers exploring aural rehabilitation. As Trends in Hearing, the journal will broaden its focus to include a more comprehensive study of hearing.” stated Charles Limb, Associate Professor at John Hopkins Medicine and former Editor-in-Chief of Trends in Amplification. “I am delighted to have been a part of the growth of Trends and am pleased that as an open access publication, the journal will reach an even wider community of medical scholars.”

“A passionate advocate of broad dissemination of high-quality, peer-reviewed research, SAGE is dedicated to expanding its portfolio of open access journals,” stated Dave Ross, SAGE’s Executive Publisher of Open Access. “We are confident that these changes for Trends will serve the hearing research community and hearing practitioners alike.”
