The Sage Choice program offers authors the option to publish their article open access in hybrid Sage subscription journals. It also enables authors to comply with funding body requirements, where publishing research papers open access is a stipulation of funding, while still publishing their article in the hybrid journal of their choice.

At SAGE, we take seriously our obligation to ensure readers get to the SAGE content they need as smoothly and effectively as possible wherever their starting point and regardless of their device. The following lists the pure gold open access journals published by Sage. All articles published in the journals provide worldwide, barrier-free access to the full-text of articles online, immediately on publication under a creative commons license. All articles are rigorously peer-reviewed retaining the quality hallmarks of the academic publishing process that authors would experience in publishing in any traditional Sage journal.
Authors can make their article open access either via the gold OA publishing or green OA archiving as described below.
A number of funders require research articles which have resulted from their funding to be made open access, including RCUK, NIH and Wellcome Trust. Sage helps authors comply with these mandates either via the gold open access publication route or green open access archiving.

Open access publication is a means for researchers to be compliant with their funders’ mandates. Sage’s Open Access Prepaid Account (OAPA) allows institutions to support their faculty to publish research open access.

What is open access?
Open access content is made freely available to under the terms of a Creative Commons licence. Open access publication is usually subject to payment of an article processing charge (APC) paid by the author, institution or funding body.
Corresponding Authors who reside in the countries described by the Research4Life program (both Group A and Group B) publishing in one of Sage’s gold open access journals will automatically receive a full APC waiver without needing to take any action. The waiver will be applied based on the Corresponding Author affiliation in the Sage Open Access Portal.
