Get hooked on digital photography as a creative instructional tool for the classroom!

This all-in-one guide shows teachers how to use digital photography successfully to assess and instruct young children. The author targets two important early childhood themes: using technology to enhance children's cognitive and social-emotional abilities, and fostering a sense of belonging in young learners who experience a special delight in seeing themselves and their environment in photos.

Written for early childhood educators, this comprehensive guide offers practical, theory-based ideas for using digital photos to achieve effective classroom management, nurture language and literacy skills, and promote self-esteem in preschool, kindergarten, and primary students. A hands-on resource, this book helps educators:

  • Learn the basics about software, hardware, and photography
  • Integrate photos into PowerPoint presentations and assessment portfolios
  • Use digital photography effectively across the curriculum
  • Communicate with administrators and parents through practical applications of technology

A CD-ROM containing more than 40 user-friendly forms and templates helps busy educators quickly and easily implement the strategies presented in the book.

This is a really useful book for those interested in using digital photography in the classroom. It is a practical book which offers ideas of how practitioners can use digital photography in their classrooms and explains how it can help to enhance young children's learning. It also suggests how to use photographs to communicate with parents and other professionals.
It teaches practical skills, for instance how to use photographs in a PowerPoint presentation. A very easy book to follow.

Key features
  • Knowing how to use technology in the classroom is of great importance to educators right now, as children are becoming more adept at it than their teachers
  • A recent issue of Young Children (journal published by NAEYC) focused entirely on technology; how and when to introduce it in an educational environment is hotly debated, and this book demonstrates appropriate uses that will benefit children
  • Most assessments of early childhood environments, whether they are private or public, rate the use of technology in the classroom as an indicator of quality
  • The author has presented numerous workshops on the topic, both local and abroad, and knows what kinds of topics and questions teachers have about the use of technology
  • The book will be very easy to use and includes the added value of a CD of templates
  • It also presents information on that most crucial and neglected of topics: sharing what children learn and what happens during the day with parents
