This very slim volume has already saved many of my students from despair. A bold claim but true nonetheless! For so many of the older students I have been working with in recent years I have found that many of them had debilitating early experiences of education which remain all too live for them in their current situation. Most of these students have repressed the fears they had around academia to a sufficient degree that they have found themselves able to approach a course of study in later years, but it is not until we ask them to write an essay, structure a report or heaven forbid conduct some small research that the full horror comes flooding back to them. In this context a book such as this offers a veritable rescue package of timely information which can enable the mature student to find their way back to study without pain, outlining as it does what is required in user friendly terms and what is more in that all important slimmed down version that makes it seem approachable even before they open the book.
The learners I am currently working with are Advanced Practitioners rather than student nurses and are therefore generally a little more senior in years, and at the other end of things I work with much younger learners on a managerial course in a care context: both are served by the text as both have either fear as outlined above, or in the case of younger learners they need to adapt to a more independent model of learning.
Good L4 Skills book
Very useful to have a study skills book that provides material examples related to the students' area of interest
Covers the basic requirements to make the most of studying and can be good preparatory material to read prior to studies. The inclusion of subjects like deep and surface learning, ethical practice, reflection and presentation skills should support most students when commencing a course for the caring profession.
A clear book, useful for my students and added to the reading list as recommended
A great text for level 4 social care students! They found it very useful!
Brilliant.
I have been waiting for a book taylored to health and Social Care students for a long time.
this was generally a handy accompaniment to study which increasingly I think students find useful.
