SAGE partners with the Canadian Psychiatric Association to publish The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry

January 14, 2016

Los Angeles, CA- SAGE Publishing is delighted to announce that it has begun publishing The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry (The CJP), the flagship publication of the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA). Dedicated to the latest research related to all aspects of Canadian and international psychiatry, The CJP has provided a forum for psychiatry and mental health professionals to share their findings with researchers and clinicians for 60 years.

“Since 1956, The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry has provided a venue for publication of Canadian and international psychiatric research, reviews and commentary,” commented Editor in Chief Scott B. Patten. “This publishing partnership with SAGE opens a new chapter in the journal’s history and will extend the journal’s reach, content, searchability and scientific impact.”

Publishing peer-reviewed articles that analyze ongoing developments in Canadian and international psychiatry, The CJP includes original research and systematic review papers, book reviews, letters to the editor and new perspectives articles that incorporate scientific evidence to examine controversial, complex or emerging themes in psychiatry. The CJP’s ‘In Review’ series, written by world leaders in psychiatric research, includes information on a broad range of biopsychological topics, such as:

  • Cognition in Schizophrenia
  • Pharmacogenetics
  • Suicide
  • Severe and Persistent Mental Illness
  • PTSD in Soldiers and Civilians
  • Anxiety Disorders

In addition, the monthly publication includes official position papers, policy statements and clinical practice guidelines from the Canadian Psychiatric Association.

Patten further remarked, “The CJP will continue to be the leading venue for publication of Canadian psychiatric research and will now have a greater international exposure than ever before. As a result, the journal will become an even more attractive place to publish – connecting to the community of Canadian psychiatrists more quickly and more effectively than any other journal. We expect benefits in other areas as well, such as an increase in The CJP’s impact factor, better archiving and a state-of-the-art web platform, more effective coordination of peer review and new opportunities for research dissemination such as pod-casting and video-casting of content related to published papers. All combined, we see this partnership as a win for The CJP, the CPA & its members, and SAGE.”

The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry has successfully navigated changes in international psychiatry for 60 years, publishing research that contributes to the development of the psychiatric practice and the understanding of mental disorders,” commented Bob Howard, Vice President of Journals, SAGE. “We’re pleased to publish this significant journal in partnership with the Canadian Psychiatric Association and to broaden its impact and global exposure.”
