SAGE and SOPHE launch Pedagogy in Health Promotion

June 27, 2014

Los Angeles, CA - SAGE and the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) announce today the launch of a new journal, Pedagogy in Health Promotion: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (PHP). PHP will publish its first issue in 2015.

Published quarterly, PHP research will address how teaching and learning contribute to the development of health promotion professionals working in a variety of roles with a range of populations. The journal’s content will be relevant to faculty in professional preparation and to instructors or trainers who provide continuing professional education in public health, health promotion, and disease prevention. PHP is the first major journal dedicated to pre-service and continuing education of health professionals involved in health promotion and public health. Dr. Stephen Gambescia, will serve as editor in chief in collaboration with a multidisciplinary editorial board of 25 leading scholars.

“SOPHE is excited to dedicate its expertise to advancing public health education pedagogy,” notes Elaine Auld, MPH, MCHES, Chief Executive Officer of SOPHE.  “With the burgeoning interest in public health and health care careers, and the ever-expanding technological innovations impacting teaching and learning, this journal will provide an important forum for advancing research and best practice.”

PHP will publish original research, commentaries, coaching articles and descriptive best practices that connect teaching and learning with hands-on practice. Descriptive studies will seek to innovate and improve the scholarship of health education specialists.

Pedagogy in Health Promotion promises to address an unmet need among health researchers, educators and practitioners for quality research that supports their professional development,” said Bob Howard, Vice President of Journals Editorial, SAGE. “We are very pleased to expand our partnership with SOPHE and wish Dr. Gambescia well in his new endeavor.”

PHP is one of three peer-reviewed journals published by SAGE and SOPHE. Others include Health Education & Behavior and Health Promotion Practice.
