A great introduction to the field of Early years Studies
Useful overview of key topics, in an easy to understand manner. I will recommend this for summer reading for both year one and year 2.
This is a good all round book - however because if covers such a range it does so only at a limited level. Students would therefore need to research areas of particular interest further, but this book does do well to signpost them in order to assist with this.
An informative and practical guide that is helpful for adults entering early education.
The scope of this book, in my opinion, is above and beyond that which is expected of my Level 3 students. However, I found it very useful for my own additional reading.
Essential reading that has clear text offering a rounded view of Early Years. The information is current and relevent which enables students to fully grasp the differing concepts and approaches. I really like the reflection areas that test understanding and assist with areas that may be harder to grasp. Overal a really lovely text book.
The course has ended and i have adopted it for Our new Early Years Educator qualification.
Some really useful chapters regarding the ever shifting paradigm of Childhood, policy and what constitutes effective practice. Questions and exercises at the end of each chapter have proved useful for encouraging debate within sessions
A good introduction to many of the topics covered in a Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies and other related courses. This text provides students with a good grounding in key concepts.

A good text for undergraduate students in childhood studies
This is an excellent text for undergraduate students. It relates to theoretical values, while critically analysing what this means in current day practice. There are references to further reading/information on particular points, which students should find useful. The way the chapters have been presented within the four sections help students to distinguish between different concepts. It is helpful to have all the references at the end of the book rather than after each chapter.
I would have liked to have seen some references to Welsh educational policy.
