Each volume in this issues-based reference set on education in the U.S. tackles a broad, contentious topic that has prompted debate and discussion (at times, vociferous) within the education community and among the public at large with which all education majors should familiarize themselves prior to embarking on a teaching career.
The focus of the set is on preschool through secondary education.

Within each volume, each chapter will be structured to begin with a headnote (an objective introduction and overview of a particular issue), followed by a point and then a counterpoint argument. Authors of the point and counterpoint articles will have exchanged drafts and will include rebuttals or references to one another's articles.
Each chapter concludes with recommended Further Readings & Resources (sources of statistics, data, web sites, etc.) to guide students to more in-depth discussion and exploration.
Each volume opens with an Introduction by the volume editor introducing the broad topic for that volume and providing some historical underpinnings and context.
