Panagos Panos European Commission - Joint Research Centre, Belgium

 

Dr. Panagos Panos has a PhD in soil erosion modelling awarded from University of Basel. He also received a Master in Business Administration (MBA) in University of Patras (2005-2010). He also studied Informatics in the homonymous Department of Athens University of Economics & Business during the period 1989-1993.

He joined the European Commission - Joint Research Centre in 2001 with duties in database administration and development of GIS and Web applications. He has participated in the many FP5, FP6 and FP7 projects EUROHARP, PECOMINES, EWCZ-EuWASP, Geoland-2, DIGISOIL, I-Soil, eSoter, SoilTrEC, CASCADE, EcoFinders, RECARE. His role in the SOIL team is to model soil erosion at European scale. He has also developed various studies and publications on soil erosion factors. Moreover, Panos Panagos has been involved in the development of the European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC). He is Project Leader for some of the FP-7 projects. He is also involved in the development of the "European Soil Database (distribution version 2)" and in various projects such as MEUSIS (Multi-Scal Soil Information Systems) and EuDASM (European Archive of Digital Soil Maps). During the last years he is also involved in soil data modelling relevant to soil erosion and soil organic carbon. He has published more than 105 scientific articles in Peer review international Journals including a recent correspondence in NATURE, the Global Soil Erosion in Nature Communications, a recent article in SCIENCE Advances, an article on rainfall erosivity in Scientific Reports and many other well-known journals (Global Change Biology, Science of Total Environment, Land Degradation & Development, Journal of Hydrology, Environmental Science & Policy, etc...).
