Regulating Crime: The New Criminology of Crime Control: An overview

October 2018 | 218 pages | SAGE Publications, Inc

Regulating Crime: The New Criminology of Crime Control proposes a new direction for criminology: pre-empting, supplementing, and enhancing the traditional machinery of justice with a novel framework of intermediary regulation. The research in this volume of The ANNALS demonstrates that many crime problems cannot be effectively reduced or prevented through punishment or corrections. Rather, non-criminal-justice actors, such as communities and companies, can employ regulatory frameworks and safety measures to reduce the opportunity, quantity, and quality of criminal behavior. These essays pave the way for a research agenda that distributes crime prevention across the rapidly changing technologies and organizations of the modern era.
