A one-stop-shop for students new to qualitative data analysis!
A very detailed, helpful text throughout. The chapters consist of images and there are many opportunities to follow up ideas/further literature.
A good book for the higher level stduents
Excellent introduction to a avriety of approaches to collecting and analysing qualitative data.
I found this book is a reading especially useful for researchers who are starting to study and develop qualitative research. Topics are presented with an increased degree of difficulty, which makes it easier to apprehend the contents and to apply the software. I found especially useful the chapter devoted to the work with multimedia sources (7), which are increasingly being used. I have recommended the book to my students, as an introductory text to qualitative analysis and NVivo.
Provides a good overview. Very good examples. I would have preferred more depth than the range of techniques.
Very good text, that provides a comprehensive introduction to qual. data analysis. Covers a range of both traditional and newer approaches as well as coding and basic NVivo. Written in an accessible format that students should be able to use effectively to learn from. It goes into a lot more detail than many books with 'an introduction' in their title. Highly recommended.
This book will be recommended reading on the life science qualitative research methodology units. It covers well the diverse range of methods suitable for all four of the individual science subjects.
A very good, user-friendly text. Ideal for students who are trying to get to grips with data analysis.
I use the book for my own preparation for classes, since it gives a quick refreshment of so many approaches.
This latest edition is a valuable and timely addition to the wealth of existing literature about research methodologies. It is made up of 6 parts with each beginning with an overview of the topic followed by detailed and relevant information about each sub-topic. It is well written and designed to reach a wider audience. Part 3 consists of the additional material to the first edition. In this part the author refers to newer qualitative approaches which includes among others, ‘poetic inquiry’ and ‘ethnodrama and performative art’. Each part concludes with a reading list not just of the references cited but further reading of the specific areas mentioned. To conclude, this is an excellent book for both new and experienced qualitative research students. The language is accessible and appropriate. Qualitative research is shown to be creative and its findings deep and rich. A must-read!
