Bite-sized sections on a range of key issues. Excellent for first year BEd Early Years students.
I feel this is a good basic text for students beginning their studies as it covers a range of topics and gives students lots of prompts to stimulate reflective thinking.
Criticisms would be that it is quite superficial and would probably only be useful in Foundation modules when a general understanding of the issues is required. Not really suitable as a specialist text. I particularly like the way the book starts with an introduction to study and to reflective practice
We have used the previous edition for both QTS4 and BA(Hons), and will continue to use this essential text
What a wonderful book! Extremely accessible and a delight to read. The authors cover a range of relevant issues which are of interest to students, teachers and practitioners within the early years sector. Thought provoking case studies and exercises promote discussion throughout. Easy to dip in and out of but also difficult to put down once you get started!
Another easy to read and understand book by Linda Pound. The book that every student studying Early Years must have as it covers all aspects of the EY sector.

A clear text for students studying UG Childhood Studies
Students will find this book a comprehensive introduction to a number of highly relevant and interesting concepts in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education.
This is an excellent book covering a wide range of topics in a readable and accessible way. I am particularly interested in the research chapters as an aid to encouraging practitoners to engage in research.
Useful addition to this module and Practice in Early Years Settings (ED2035)
This was useful for my students in supporting their study of a number of types of children's symbolic behaviour.
